House Public Speaking CompetitionThis event took place on Friday 5th February. There were three categories: Debating, Balloon Debate and Persuasive Speaking. This year's adjudicators were highly experienced and successful public speakers from the Senior School; Will Wickman, Ed Hallas and Felicity Nixon. The standard in the two formal debates was excellent. The two motions, 'Every day should be mufti day', and 'Sport brings out the best in people' were confidently argued. Winners in debating were Abigail McHardy and Evie Carroll. Best balloon debater was James Dancey. The award for best Year 6 speaker went to Edward White but all four Year 6 speakers were of the very highest standard - well done to Thomas Willis, Thomas Bawden and Robin Stallard.The best persuasive speaking team was Dowell House; Rosemary Moss, Hera Bradly and Heidi Parsons. The House Shield went to Dowell House this year.All of the 32 speakers did remarkably well and are to be congratulated for speaking clearly and confidently in front of an audience of well over 200 people.
